If Jannah Had Visiting Hours

I’ve decided to write another nasheed for my mum. Mum was not only my mother, she was my best friend, my rock and the person I wanted to do everything with. For those of you who don’t know a Nasheed is a work of vocal music that is either sung acapella or accompanied by percussion instruments such as the daf. In general, Islamic nasheeds do not contain lamellaphone instruments. The material and lyrics of a nasheed usually make reference to Islamic beliefs, history, and religion, as well as current events. This nasheed is a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Visiting Hours”. This ones for you mum.

If Jannah had visiting hours

I could just come round

And tell you what’s new

Mum I went for Umrah in 2020

I got a first in my degree at uni

I’ve got my own house

And then there’s Istanbul

We would stay up talking till all hours of the night

Chatting and laughing while we put the world to right

Finally when the angels said that I had to go

I’d give you a kiss and say

I’ll be back tomorrow

If Jannah had visiting hours

I would just turn up

And ask for your help

You’d look at me and ask who is she?

Are your intentions clear enough to see?

I would just tell you

Mum she’s amazing

You would be helping me to come up with a plan

“Don’t give up my son I always believe that you can”

Finally when the angels said that I had to go

I’d give you a kiss and say

I’ll be back tomorrow

If only Jannah had visiting hours

That’s where I would have been

When we won it in Madrid

Watching the game with my favourite person

Jumping around while Hendo did his shuffle

And your smile

Would have lit up the place

Celebrating until we heard the fajr adhan

And after namaz we would have watched the re-run

Finally when the angels said that I had to go

I’d give you a kiss and say

I’ll be back tomorrow

If only Jannah had visiting hours……….
